Episode 7: Adult Babies
Stumbling into a world of diapers I knew nothing about.
Usually I’m pretty excited to talk to any guest that I invite on to the show, but with Kat Marie, a member of the Adult Baby Diaper Lover (ABDL) community, I was hesitant to talk to her at all.
If you listened to last week’s episode, you heard me stumble on to a controversy in the Adult Diaper community and, in learning about that controversy, I learned of the existence of the ABDL community. After that interview, I started to poke around online and see what I could learn about ABDLs, however, I had a tough time pinning down exactly what this community was about and, frankly, relating to any of their desires or chosen activities. Plus, I still had a lingering fear, that the community was in some way adjacent to the worst things they have been associated with (the type of things Kendrick Lamar accuses Drake of.)
After some thinking, I decided to go ahead with the interview. After all, the DNA of this podcast is curiosity and positivity around often stigmatized topics.
I’m really happy that I did. I listen back to my interview with “Mommy Kat” and I’m impressed with how she is able to open my mind and explain some of the relatable desires and needs that are behind the somewhat less relatable (to me) activities that ABDLs take part in. It’s cheesy, but I listen back to this interview and have some hope that other people can also find a better understanding with communities that have been attacked or stigmatized out of fear.
